Old Boots left this review about The Smithy Fold (JD Wetherspoon)

A small but interesting ‘spoons in the ground floor of a converted multi storey mill building. Apart from a wide split level front section it’s long and thin with mostly exposed stone walls and original iron columns. Usual seating arrangements based on proximity to the counter. This is along the left-hand side wall and holds no surprises, two banks of five pulls with T-bars interspersed. It was early so had a Thornbridge Wild Swan which was pretty good and up to GBG standard. I didn’t notice a silent screen but there are machines, spookily turned off until later. Decor is limited and consists of mill and spinning related stuff, a few Lowry like paintings are hanging by the toilets. There’s a patio at the rear right close to the toilets entrances. More under staffed than a lot of spoons, just one morose barmaid and a cook for much of my time there.

GBG listed Spoons, converted from part of an old cotton mill in 2013 and has an interesting if modern interior with high ceilings. Really busy on a Saturday afternoon and staff were all over the shop, plus most of the guest ales were off. Eventually got a Lymestone which was in decent nick if not much of a brew (NBSS 3). On a quieter day I might have enjoyed it more. But you play the cards you’re dealt in the pub ticking game.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Smithy Fold (JD Wetherspoon)

Spoons housed in a towering former cotton mill, meaning that the ceiling is higher than most and thus helps to offset the relative lack of window area. Probably quite open in normal times, but the coronavirus screens leave nearly all tables on their own. A small patio garden can also be found to one side. Not too bad a selection of real ales from the two banks of five handpumps, including Goddard Fuggle Dee Dum (£2.15) and Redemption Urban Dusk plus the usual suspects of Ruddles, Doom Bar, Abbot and a cider.
