Will Larter left this review about Black Swan
A long, white-painted building, or collection of buildings run together, the Black Swan occupies a prominent position in the hilltop village of Culgaith. Sunday lunch was in full swing when I arrived, but the couple in front of me at the bar had not made a reservation. "Sorry, but it is Fathers Day" was the excuse proffered, and they disappeared into the beer garden at the back with their drinks to discuss options. I soon followed suit, but for different reasons. My beer choices were from Ennerdale Monarch and Eden River Ama-Royal, two coronation themed beers. I went for the former based on its slightly lower abv, and quickly skedaddled to the garden. This precipitate departure was prompted by the ghastly modern furnishings: I'm not usually that bothered by tables and chairs, but the whole style on display here was just too much for me. Unfortunately, pleasant as it was to be outdoors, the beer was tired and flabby (NBSS 2).
