The Alex, Parkgate, Rotherham

The Alex is situated just off the very busy broad street in the Parkgate area of Rotherham.
The pub is wedged shaped,once inside there was a single wedged shaped room, bar was to the front left in the narrow area,there were a few bar stools here,there was a TV which had horse racing on to the the middle right,there was a small bench seat and a table in this area,the rear opened out,there was comfy red leather bench seating running down the left side,a pool table was in a small area to the right.
A banner outside said "now selling hand pulled real ales",there was one pump on the bar with its clip turned round,i asked for a drink of real ale,but was told "we dont do real ales",i then asked for a drink of John Smiths Magnet which is a decent keg bitter,but was told this beer is also off,this left John Smiths Extra Cold Crap,this was very cold,fizzy and crap,by far the worst drink of the day.
There was some background music playing which was in competition with the horse racing commentry.
This pub is probably best left for the locals.
