They say to never judge a book by its cover, which is certainly the case here because the 69 roomed Whately Hall Hotel looks very grand from the outside, but alas its wood strip floored bar with pink and green seating and faux marble topped tables is certainly not. It feels more like a tacky cocktail bar, which is a shame because I’m sure the aged American tourists who were using the bar would have preferred a more traditional English experience. They were certainly not interested in the Sky Sports News that was playing on the television. The short wood panelled serving counter across the rear supports Kopperberg, an offering from Camden Brewery and Corona on draught, what a selection! On the rear wall to the right of the bar are a couple of dartboards, which again feel out of place. I’m not sure what this place is meant to be, but I will say that any guests of the hotel should be a bit more outgoing and explore the better options of the area.
