The Passage House Inn was the busiest pub I found in Topsham during a recent Wednesday afternoon crawl of all its pubs and bars. To the right of the entrance is a laminate floored dining area that is separated from the bar area to the left by a large fireplace with a coal effect heater. A central L-shaped serving counter on the rear wall faces seating across the front windows and the laminate floor in the bar area ends at the top of some steps that descend to a stone floored seating area further to the left. Premium keg was available from the polite bar staff alongside six hand pumps that were drawing St Austell’s Proper Job and Tribute, Otter Bright, Salcombe Gold, Dartmoor’s Jail Ale and Rosie’s Pig Rhubarb. This place is worth a look, especially on a nice day when the large waterside patio on the other side of the quiet Ferry Road can be utilised.

An excellent pub on a fine day as there is a good sized beer garden over the road, which was full on our visit. The interior was also busy with locals and navigating around a central painted brick fireplace was a bit of a chore. The interior had a nautical theme and was painted light grey and white, which in my opinion spoiled the original timber work. Once arriving at the small bar in the far corner, our choice was Otter, Tribute, Proper Job and Dartmoor Pale Ale. Good beer in here if you can get to it.

As the name suggests this pub in very close to the passenger ferry over the Exe estuary. There is a very large patio garden overlooking the water, while the interior of the pub is modest with a low ceiling, exposed beams and wood panelling in various shades of Farrow & Ball. The L shaped bar is surrounded by high tables to one side, with a seating area at a lower level.Food is a strong draw here ,very fish orientated and seemingly quite expensive with strong yet pleasant aromas around the inside. However most tourists sit outside, and the interior is very drinker friendly while there is a section to the right for internal diners.
The 6 steel handpumps were offering on my trip Otter Best and Bright,St Austell Tribute and Proper Job,Dartmoor Jail Ale (malty brew but decent,NBSS 3.5) along with a Rosie Pig cider.
Decent pub for real ale,I would call in again.Worth including on a crawl list.
