The Pocket was a bit of a random choice for me to visit in Keswick. It's more of a cafe bar than anything, but I really enjoyed my Wednesday evening visit here. In fact, it was my favourite pub/bar in Keswick.
This was a busy place with a lively atmosphere. I bagged the last table just beyond the bar as a few people started playing musical instruments near the front of the pub. Whether this was a pre-arranged event or whether it was an impropmptu performance, I'm not sure, but it made the evening much more pleasurable.
Continuing the musical theme, there are multiple instruments on the walls, along with plenty of pot plants. The all female bar staff were very friendly and I was surprised to find 4 cask ales - Ennerdale Darkest, Loch Lomond Bonnie & Blonde, Keswick Thirst Quencher and a beer called Little Devil IPA. The bar staff had no idea who brewed the beer, but a quick search revealed that it was a brand new beer from Kirkby Lonsdale. Whilst I wasn't too impressed with the IPA, the Ennerdale beer was lovely and easily my favourite beer of the day.
I really should have stayed and tried to order some food. There is an open pizza kitchen at the rear of the premises and they still appeared to be serving. Unfortunately, I had yet to discover that there are few good quality late night takeaway places in Keswick and my desire to visit a couple more pubs before retiring for the evening got the better of me.
The only thing missing here for me was a real cider, but with nice surroundings, a good atmosphere and friendly service, I recommend a visit here.

Self-described as a Belgian beer bar and bistro, this is nevertheless near enough to a pub to merit inclusion on this site. I called in for a beer, of the British variety, during my annual pre-Christmas visit to the Lakes. It is an unusual building, probably originally a shop, I would guess, with flat roofs either side of a pitched and skylighted central section. It has a plain wooden floor and bench and booth seating with plain tables, and some stools made from chimney pots. The bar is to the right and has a padded front. There are three hand pumps and nine keg fonts, plus a large menu of bottled beers, mostly Belgian. The real ales are all from local breweries, Ulverston and Tirril, and my half of Laughing Gravy (all Ulverston beers have Laurel & Hardy derived names) was fine but not memorable.
