I tried to use this Hungry Horse outlet of the Greedy King empire just as a pub for a drink. Of course that was my own mistake.
On arriving at the Travelodge at Saturday lunchtime and dumping my bag I thought I would grab a quick pint before walking the promenade and not wanting to trudge across the road to the Wetherspoons thought I would grab a pint here. That was mistake no 1.
Mistake no 2 was that on entering and finding the place heaving with families and more resembling a crèche I didn’t turn round and exit. Instead I went and sat on the edge of the bar and waited to be served …….and waited.
Eventually one of the only two staff working the bar shouted over “were not serving that section you have to come round here”.
So I got off my stool and went to the front section only to find myself on the end of a long queue behind people placing big orders of things from the laminated card of delights. Eventually I made it to the front and have to say the two ladies working the bar were politeness personified despite clearly being run off their feet and harassed at trying to deal with the tide of people.
Mistake no3 was going for the solitary IPA ale pump which was, putting it politely, not the best pint of IPA I have ever had. Again my fault as I should have realised by the fact that the pump was untroubled by other punters whilst I waited what type of pull through they have for the IPA here.
I obviously cannot pass judgement on the food, but if you come here just for a drink, best of luck !
