Beautiful building housing a massive dining pub opposite a Premier Inn and by the canal. All very nice inside on a winter evening and clearly done to Greene King‘s “rustic corporate” specification. There’s no real ale at the entrance so you have to walk past the “wait to be seated” chap to find a choice of IPA, Rockin Rudolph and Yardbird. It’s probably quite nice for what it is, but what it is is effectively a corporate restaurant that people drive to. The car park alone is the size of a small village.

The Malt house Farm was built in the 1880's and occupies what used to be the Whittle Spring Brewery Estate, and is now a Chef And Brewer with a Premier Inn latched on to the side. It is located just off the M61 in a picturesque setting overlooking the Leeds to Liverpool canal with flag floors, wooden beams, and open fires if needed in the winter months. There was 3 cask beers to go at on my Tuesday lunchtime brief visit and was quite impressed with the set up.
