This is a classic grade II listed, three storey Georgian building which is definitely a lively locals pub and is owned by Enlighten Inns of Torquay. The interior has just one small room with a tiny dark wood bar counter in the back left corner, the floor around the counter is bare wood and there is a red tiled floor on the right side of the room. The walls are half dark wood panel with the top half of the right wall being rough stone painted cream, in the front two corners, either side of the central entrance are fixed dark wood settles with burgundy fabric seats and in the middle of the right wall is a dart board.
Regular ales are currently Greene King Abbot Ale and Sharps Doom Bar. I had a pint of Doom Bar which unfortunately was poor in my opinion and I left half!
I usually try to be as positive as possible in my reviews and this does appear to be a nice environment to have a pint or two in, to be fair it’s a good looking drinkers pub and I appreciated the traditional décor. Sadly the clientele were a bit too boisterous for my liking (one insisted on doing the Lenny Henry Peacock call every 5 minutes and another felt that he simply must talk “at” every person who came through the door regardless of whether they knew him or not!), several of them dominated the area around the small counter and created quite an irritating and intimidating atmosphere. I would normally return a poor real ale and hope to have it changed for a replacement but I did not feel comfortable enough to approach the bar again. This visit was on a mid-week lunch time so I dread to think what the place could be like on a weekend evening! These observations are all based on a single visit so I may have just been very unlucky, paradoxically the pub looks like my kind of traditional local so I would risk a second visit but I would just have a quick half.

A couple of good beers and a great location for a pub. You can take your beer outside and sit on the harbour side.
