I think that this place used to be called Slater’s Wine Bar before a recent refurbishment and name change to the Long Room. I decided to pop in on a recent Saturday evening after watching the FA Cup final and found myself to be the only customer. Maybe this was because there is no television in here and 21:00 is too early for the revellers who frequent the late bars down this stretch of Eastbourne. There was some old skool break beat playing at a reasonable volume, but I’m not sure how long these tunes stayed on as one of the barmen was complaining that something more modern should be played. This made me feel very old and uncool.
I can see where the new name came from as this is a long room with a bar on the left hand wall that faces some seating up the right. Beyond here is more seating and the rear exit which leads to a small enclosed beer garden that is full of picnic tables. The interior tables had masquerade masks on them whilst I was there and the staff were wearing Brazilian themed T-shirts for some unknown reason.

I found the service to be friendly enough, but I prefer a decent pub so I don’t plan on rushing back.
