The Pig on the Hill is a large family orientated country free house located up a narrow road from Westwood Ho. Affectionately known as "The Pig" to the locals, this pub has a massive outdoor space including an acre of grounds set as a children’s play area and a benched seating area from which you get breathtaking views across open countryside to the east with glimpses of the Atlantic to the north. Primarily this is more of a restaurant than a pub and you would only search it out if you intended to eat. This is what we did when finding it through Tastecard.
Internally its one large space divided up into different sections. The main bar is in front of you when you enter and then there is a long tabled section to the right of the bar and then a raised separate section to the left. Also internally there apparently is a games room including football and pool tables and a skittle alley, but we had no reason to find these.
The food menu was the usual family orientated pub grub but the mains we had were perfectly fine and reasonable, especially when utilising the Tastecard.
The bar has the usual shiny lager fonts but also four ale handpumps. Three were on providing Dartmore best, St Austells HSD and a local cider and the fourth ( Cottleigh Wizard had gone).
The service we experienced was warm, friendly and efficient, but then we visited on a cold wet evening and there were only three tables in. And I can well imagine this place gets rammed with families on a hot Devon Summer weekend, if we ever get one this year.
