A very smart recent refurbishment of what I would guess to be a 60s-built hotel, though there may be an older building lurking in there somewhere. The public bar is also very smart, and bears the name Mote, whose significance escapes me. There's no real ale available (there is in fact a hand pump standing all forlorn on the bar, but there was no beer on at the time of my visit), so I had a half of McEwans 80/-. I let it stand for a bit while I wrote some postcards, in the hope that it would warm up to a drinkable temperature. One of the staff came over and asked if I would be ordering food, which felt a little odd to me at the time, but on reflection every table was set up for eating (even though there is a restaurant through the doors), and a few people were eating. I didn't eat, so can't comment on the food. The beer was pretty awful though - par for the course over most of Scotland.
