I couldn't resist calling in here - it's an archetypal 60s post office, which has been more than adequately described by the previous reviewers. I'm here on a midweek early afternoon and it's pretty quiet, which is just as well because the tables and chairs, high tables and booths are enough to seat 80, and that's without counting the back room, the snug-in-the-vault and the stack of high chairs for toddlers.

I'd initially resolved to have a swift half and move on, but I saw Five Points XPA, which is a favourite of mine, and Portobello Star, which I had yesterday evening at the Old Red Lion in Kennington, so I had a half of each. The Star Bitter is better than what I had yesterday, when I had scored it Very Good; this one is a little better but still Very Good (which covers the former numerical scores 3.5, 4 and 4.5), rather than Excellent. Meanwhile the XPA was also Very Good, but maybe a 4 compared with the Star's 4.5. All this beer scoring detail is distracting me from the soundtrack of fairly annoying stuff being pumped out of the sound system here. It's almost enough to make me wish it was still a post office.

It was a rainy early midweek afternoon when I visited the Sylvan Post, so the awnings were pulled over the unused picnic tables that run across the front. Inside this former post office are lots of open plan tables and chairs found between high tables up the left-hand wall and some booths up the right. A serving counter runs across the rear wall where craft keg is available alongside three hand pumps that were drawing Vocation Brewery’s Deck the Palms and Chop & Change as well as Portobello Brewery’s Star. To the left of the counter is a small red novelty post box and the old post box from the post office days runs under the windows along the front wall. The side walls are adorned with post office ephemera and adjacent to a small seating area at the rear is the old safe that’s been turned into a snug with banquettes around a single table, I think I could just about shoehorn myself in there, but I’m not sure I’d be able to get out again. There are a couple of televisions that were both off while some random background music played. I sat at one of the open plan tables while an annoying child ran around, I assume the family was in for some lunch; the double cheeseburger is priced at £17.50. My pint of Chop & Change was excellent, but the service wasn’t the most welcoming and the décor is more community hall than pub, so I don’t plan to revisit.

I walked past this pub thinking it was still a functional Post Office although the tables and chairs outside should have been a give away,i got round to doing it after looking at my list of pubs to do in the area.

The Sylvan Post is a pub that is housed in a 60s built Post Office.
Once inside the pub still seems like a Post Office but where the counter was, there is now a bar,the room is oblong shaped and a decent size,the floor is tiled,the seating mainly normal tables and chairs plus a few tall tables and chairs,there is booth seating to the right.
There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Brockley Gold which went down very well,the other beers noted were Volden Pale,Volden Session Ale and Belleville Abbotswell White.
Food was being served and background music was playing.
The pub was reasonably busy with a mix of more upmarket customers some with children.
The beer was quite nice here but this is not really my sort of pub.
