This ground floor bar underneath a four storey Partick tenement currently advertises itself as “The Cheapest Pub in Glasgow - all Pints £2.50.” I’m sure I could find cheaper pubs in less salubrious quarters of the city, but for the area, this is very good value indeed. Surprisingly, there is a good range of cheap pints on offer - Tennents Lager, Stella Artois, Magner’s Cider, Belhaven Best, Tennents Light, Special and Ember and even Guinness, are all priced at £2.50. And it’s quite an attractive pub too, with an ornately corniced ceiling, stained glass partitions and an impressive, mirrored gantry. The main bar is at the front and a raised area at the rear is presumably intended to be the lounge, although both are served from the same counter and there is little difference between the two. An outdoor banner proclaims that The Ettrick is “ Under New Management,” so the pricing might be temporary. Enjoy it while you can.
