Rex Rattus left this review about Rose & Crown
The exterior of this pub looks attractive with its tradional brown brewery tiling and hanging baskets, but it really does flatter to deceive as the interior is very ordinary. There’s just one very large room wrapped around a large central island bar counter. The furnishings are all cheap looking and very basic. There are the usual large TV screens on the walls, tuned to Sky News during my visit and competing with the sound of music from a juke box or possibly piped music. There’s some carpeting including on a raised and balustraded area at the front on the right, a pool table at the back on the right, and one or two forlorn looking and lonely Christmas decorations hanging from the ceiling. Otherwise there is no decoration whatsoever, unless you count the “live sport this week” blackboard.
There were eight traditional handpumps on the bar counter, plus a new-fangled shiny GKIPA pump. Only two ales were on – GKIPA and Ruddles Best (so possibly a GK pub?), with most of the pumps unused. The Ruddles Best was only £2.30 a pint though. I didn’t see any sign of food, although there was one of those Sahara heated nuts things on the bar counter. This is a very bland pub in my opinion, but it is still evidently a going concern and good luck to its regulars if they enjoy visiting this pub.
