Situated in a residential area at the top a hill, I was lucky to find this locals' pub open. In fact, they were just about to open when I turned up shortly before 4pm on a Sunday. The pub was in a state of disarray, from a busy night the night before.

The landlord was there and he explained that they had recently taken out Sky TV, as it was too expensive. So, a lot of the regulars would drink in the main area of the town to watch the football before heading up later in the day/evening. He was off on holiday and his mother was in charge. I spent an interesting 20 minutes or so chatting with her about pubs in the town, including the now closed Douglas Arms which was the only pub I visited the last time I came to Bethesda in 2011.

Cwtch was the solitary real ale. Again, this was explained by locals having drunk the rest on the Saturday evening. There were certainly a few pumpclips behind the bar, but I'm not sure how true that story was. By the time I left, there was no sign of an influx of regulars from the town.
