Friendly community locals music free pub with a good selection of ales available from Neepsend, Brass Castle, Brinkburn, Bottlebrook, Wild Beer, Whim and Shiny breweries. We enjoyed our Brass Castle Rhubarb and Custard.

This was my third flat iron shaped pub to visit, along with the Central in Gateshead and the Brunswick in Derby. This fine Victorian pub is the Brewery Tap for Amber ales, with their brewery only a 20 min walk from here.
There was a brewery take over evening on our visit, with Twisted Angel Brewery taking prime position along the majority of the nine handpumps. I went for the Cloud Drifter, which was a very good session ale. I found this pub to be very welcoming and well run. I would firmly say that this is a good destination pub, and should be on your hitlist.

Quinno _ left this review about The Talbot Inn

Not-so-long opened brewery tap for Amber Ales. Located ten minutes trot up the hill from the preserved Midland Railway station, I thought this would make a nice afternoon break from the nearby Indietracks music festival. It’s a fairly functional building with a point of note being that one end apexes pleasingly to match the junction on which the pub abuts (‘flat iron shaped’ is a good description used elsewhere). The interior has been well-described below, so all I’ll add is that it feels a little utilitarian in places and could do with a bit of added cosiness. Seven handpumps were in use on my visit, featuring six Amber Ales and a guest. I manfully drank my way through most of them which were in good nick, if a little warm at times (it was a scorching hot day though so forgivable). Whilst I wasn’t really taken with their ales (the Pacifica excepted) it was certainly good to try them and there were a number of higher-end keg and Belgian beers stocked too, as well as many of the Fentimans range for the softies. Some confusion was caused by the badly-worded sign about CAMRA discounts – it turns out that the CAMRA discount no longer exists per se but has been applied to all beer for all punters. Bar staff were friendly and there was a good mix of punters with the place beginning to fill up when we left at 4pm. Table skittles and bar billiards were on offer (though the billiards cue was broken) so I got inevitably thrashed at the skittles by Mrs Quinno. An enjoyable session and a couple of extra improvements could really set this onto a higher plain. Pointless point of note - Ivan's hairdressers over the road had a hand-written sign in the window advising that a new range of vibrators were in stock...!
