A slightly strange pub with perhaps more of a member's club feel to it than your regular boozer, it nonetheless sits in a prime position at the end of the beach overlooking the pier's toll house. Plans were afoot for the rapidly expanding Mezze chain to take it over, but following their financial difficulties this is now looking less certain and the incumbent and friendly landlady told me that she was hoping to buy the lease.

The main bar to the left has a rather dated feel with a mixture of wood strip flooring and carpet, whilst the walls are mostly cream wood panelling with khaki green paintwork elsewhere. A pool table is very prominent in the middle of the room with a darts board off to one side. A snug area at the front had a few low leather sofas to sit and make the most of the views through the large windows. There is another room off to the right which I saw housed a piano and a carvery counter, but this is currently not in use and food is not offered, despite the sign outside saying it is.

Although there were four handpumps on the bar, they all appeared to offer Wickwar Bob. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher's Gold and Thatcher's Traditional. Overall this has certainly got potential, for it's location if nothing else, but on it's current showing needs a bit of work to entice me back.
