Formerly The Dorchester, Orwells is a small, one-roomed pub set in a residential block just off St Vincent Street. It's an unspoilt bar and has a homely feeling with what look like original Edwardian ceilings, a rather naff tartan carpet and etched windows to the front. There is a snug to the rear with a cast iron fireplace. The walls are decorated with various pictures of the area in former times and a selection of brewery mirrors. There was no real ale, but the welcome was warm and pleasant from staff and customers alike - I don't think they get many visitors here. A large projector and pull-down screen are used to show sports events. Although this is a good community pub of type rare in this area, its lack of real ale makes it difficult to recommend for a crawl, although it is worth dropping in for a quiet soft drink to escape the bustle.
