Planning to visit the Tan Hill Inn, I had to turn around when I reached an approach road that was closed due to snow higher up the route. Thankfully, I missed the deluge by about 30 minutes meaning that I didn’t get stranded with other less fortunate travellers before me. So, I had to make do with the Fox Hall Inn that is more hotel and restaurant than pub, but there is a slender tile floored bar with a serving counter that faces seating along the front windows. There’s also an exposed brick fireplace with an old leather sofa and a couple of bucket chairs. The rear of the pub is for dining, and there a tea and coffee station for hotel guests. Out the back is a split-level garden with picnic tables on a patio and a gravelled area down some steps next to a gate that opens into a large, and very muddy, field. The barmaid / waitress was very friendly, and there was a bit of background music playing, but those other than hotel guests are not having just a drink here.
