Visited 22/03/26. Visited previously 06/04/23.

Two cask festival ales the Read the Room brown bitter from Good Word and the Export strong bitter from Harrogate Brewery Daleside. Then usual suspects of Abbot, Doom Bar and GK IPA. Keg offering of Guinness, Corona, Stowford Press, Leffe Blonde, Budweiser, Stella, Coors, Bud Light, Carling, Shipyard Pale Ale, Thatchers Gold, Carlsberg, K1664, dark fruits SB, Worthington CF, Mad Squirrel Sumo APA, BrewDog Punk IPA, Seven Brothers Easy IPA and Angelo Poretti.

Balcony level JDW landside South Terminal. Bar counter in a tiled section on the left-hand wall from the entrance with the remainder a mix of carpeted and bare boarded. There is a drinking ledge and tall tables both served by tall stools looking outside. Lots of regular tables and chairs in the main floor space from the entrance to the glass front looking outside the terminal building and with some tall tables and chairs along the glass looking out the right-hand side into the terminal building. Most here were grabbing a bite to eat before going airside or maybe they just come to the terminal to eat at Spoons with no travel plans! A solitary screen showing BBC News with no sound and indeed the only sound here was the clank of cutlery on plate.

Not been back to this 'spoons in the upper (Departures) level catering area just before security for 12 years (and then only because I had to wait for a train connection), but little has changed. Named after Gatwick's distinctive first terminal building, it features a dark rectangular bar, with a side branch featuring some very welcome windows looking towards the North Terminal people mover and the station, rather than the airfield. Thankfully, the Fort Smith from Roosters (£4.50) was available from the two banks of three handpumps, in addition to the standard Greene King IPA, Doom Bar and Abbot.

Spoons pub in Gatwick’s South Terminal, located landside and takes its name from the original circular airline terminal named ‘the beehive’. Windows overlooking the concourse make for good people watching and there’s plenty of charging outlets for your electronic gizmos. Curved bar, plenty of honeycomb motifs and design elements when you get your eye in. Pretty cramped seating as to be expected, Timbo milking every cover he can from the fairly small space (by JDW standards, anyway) There was one guest cask on the go (making four in total) which clocked-in at £5.05 with my Timbo Token and was surprisingly drinkable (NBSS 3). Given it’s an airport Wetherspoons I thought it was fairly good.
