Palmer's pub in an archetypal and picturesque Dorset village complete with a stream running down the side of the road. The car park is accessed by a bridge over the stream.
As we approached, the sight of several kids running amok in the garden didn't give us the best first impression. But inside, was a friendly community local. Both staff and customers were friendly.
Three Palmer's beers were on - 200, Copper & Dorset Gold. Cider was limited to a couple of their keg ones. Locals were happy to recommend some spicy crisps, which we were sold on. I can't say that they were a good accompaniment to my 200, but they were good. The 200 was equally good. It was not a beer that I'd tried previously.
I wasn't expecting much from this pub. But I was suitably impressed.

This is a cheerful looking, square brick-built village pub with a stream bubbling past the front and a well kept garden to the side. The inside isn’t very big, with a central bar and traditional seating and tables either side. Wood panelling separates the green skirting and dado rail, above which the pale walls display lots of photos and prints. Half hidden behind the pub is a long, grey painted corrugated metal hut which houses a skittle alley.
Amongst the drinks were three hand pumps serving Palmers Best, Copper Ale and 200, and the landlady, staff and locals (and their dogs) were particularly friendly and welcoming. We also ate here one night - the food was very good and generously portioned. It was quite difficult to drag ourselves out of here: I’d say this and the New Inn in Shipton Gorge are the best Palmers houses I’ve ever visited.
