Visited 18/02/26. Visited previously 13/02/24.

Five hand pumps all dispensing and based on my several halves to try as many as possible, in absolutely tip top shape. The five on offer on my visit were the Emperor bitter from Mallinson's, the Venn blonde from Thornbridge, Tidal Pool pale ale from Margate Brewery Northpool, the Dark Hollow Porter from Liquid Light and the Blue Sky Drinking from Arbor. There were also four real ciders available. Keg offering was Guinness, Deya Magazine Cover session ale, Budvar, Broadoak Premium Cider, Konig Ludwig Weissbier, the Mallard gluten free pale from Squawk, the Lemon Drizzle Pastry Sour from Yonder, Flensburger lager, Spaten and the Bring Back the Sun DDH Pale Ale from Polly's.

Quite compact venue opposite and then up a few steps from the JDW opposite. The venue is stone tiled at the front to the end of the bar counter and then the rear is bare boarded. The bar counter is on the left-hand wall mid venue with a banquette serving a couple of tables on the wall opposite. Seating in the front is via some regular tables with leather regular chairs. Seating at the rear is via a white and red leather banquette along the left-hand wall serving regular tables and regular chairs the other side thereof, with some regular tables and chairs in the main floor space and then another small banquette in the rear right-hand corner and a small booth table next to it. No screen I noticed and a very enjoyable music soundtrack. There is an upstairs space used for live performances, comedy the evening after my Wednesday late afternoon visit. This is a top cask venue in Cardiff and provides a superb triple header with the Pen & Wig a 5 min walk away and the Central Bar directly opposite before you even have to contemplate any other venues.

Until 11 years ago this was the Promised Land, though I agree it’s probably a townhouse conversion.
It’s well described, especially by the previous reviewer who couldn’t get in here fast enough. The simple interior is matched to a flagstone floor; it has a strong live music bent too.
I went for the Pentrich Soma, marked as very good.
Yes, this is a place to linger away, getting nicely flute and tankard, far from the average circuit pubs in central Cardiff; note that it’s closed when matches are being played at the Principality. Otherwise, my Pub of the Crawl.

A charming, quirky pub up some steep steps with a few external tables on a small terrace. The interior starts with the bar to the left, then a series of comfy chairs and small tables ,leading back to a quiet rear with chair covers in light leather. The ceiling is low, decent mirrors enhance the space while there is a roped off first floor, unexplored by myself. The friendly welcome always helps and the interesting ale range was a blessed relief after crawling around a lot of circuit pubs. On my trip that meant Stancill Blonde and Nightshift,Padstow May Day (NBSS 4),Pentrich Soma and Moor Bitter. The range of strengths and styles mark this pub out as somewhere that cares about serving quality real ale,it's rightly in the GBG and was my pub of the crawl of the city centre.A must visit pub and one I would linger in much longer on my next visit to Cardiff.
