The Lord Nelson in Burton Joyce is a part of a small chain called Moleface Pub Co that owns two other sites in the city. locate just off the main southwell road that bypasses the vllage and like its sister pubs the Nelson is more of a gastro dining pub than a proper boozer and thus I always feel drinkers are made to feel second best. This is particularly prominent in this pub as this one seemed even more food/restaurant orientated than the other two. As you enter there is a central bar that passes between two main rooms with a further ding room off to the right. Even though the back room is more catered for drinkers food is available and served throughout meaning there is nowhere for sole drinkers to feel entirely comfortable. That said the decor is rather nice, a tad on the modern side but tastefully done and in a traditional style. When we arrived food service was over allowing us to sit in a usually reserved spot for diners. Everyone around us had just finished a meal and it didn’t real feel right to be sat drinking. The beers available were landlord, house ale brewed by Magpie Brewery and a Strong IPA from a Brewery I can’t remember although it was a micro. The Landlord costs a dastardly £4 that even in this posh suburb is daylight robbery for Nottingham but admittedly was the best kept pint of the night and was rather enjoyable. Overall this doesn’t really appeal to the drinker but it is not aiming to and I would e happy to come here for a meal as the reviews and surroundings would make for a nice dining experience. If you find yourself in Burton Joyce and your feeling flush then this is probably the best option for a good beer but wont fulfil your pubby needs quite so much at peak dining times.
