All cities have their unique pubs and I guess this is Liverpools. One for the beer tourists and nothing wrong with that. Fine outdoor drinking area and the cells have been converted to lovely little booths. A football pub - with tvs everywhere, which may not be your thing.
Good beers - as you would expect from a CAMRA pub of the year for the last two years. I went Deya Steady Rolling Man but good cask options available

A flying visit here, mainly to have a quick look at the building. There's no hiding from it's origins and there is a good selection of cells to sit in and an open are by the bar. There is also a pleasant walled patio type of area at the entrance which was being utilised even on a chilly February evening. Kirkstall Three Swords was a good quality plae ale to enjoy while I was there.

Current Liverpool CAMRA pub of the year and a former lock-up. You can still drink in the former cells, which provide nice secluded drinking areas. One group of people even managed to close themselves in on this visit.
If you don't fancy the cells, there is a small area of open-plan seating next to the bar. 4 real ales are served. These were Kirkstall Bitter, Leeds Yorkshire Gold, Castle Rock Harvest Pale & Facer's North Star. A 5th handpull had a real cider, which was SeaCider Black Cherry.
For better weather, there is also an outdoor drinking area near the entrance.
