A Victorian freehouse with a large, well-kept garden. It also has its own micro-brewery - Rascality - though sadly none of their own beers were available when we visited. The interior has been renovated in recent years and is tidy and comfortable. It feels spacious, and there is a mix of seating styles including dining tables and a good sized comfy seat area around the log burner in an original brisk chimney. It's a popular venue for diners, and the food is all locally sourced, the game being in season. I had wanted to try llama, but there was none available, so I had the roast partridge which was very good indeed, while my companion assured me that the chips with his burger were excellent. Two ales on Woodford Wherry and Friday Street Bitter; I had the Friday Street which was in first class condition. I'd be very happy to return to eat again and hopefully try the Rascality ales.
