This is now a very food-oriented pub, with a small centrally placed bar with not a lot of room for drinkers. To be fair there are four hand pumps, with two mainstream beers and two from local small brewers (see photo). My half of Smiling Assassin from Derby's Falstaff microbrewery was spot on, but I have to admit that I drank it far too quickly and skedaddled because I did not feel at all comfortable surrounded by families eating their Sunday dinners. It may feel more welcoming to drinkers at other times of the week - I might pop back and find out.

The Durham Ox is hidden away in the back streets off bath street.
This is a nice looking pub that was a rarity in these parts as it was a Wards tied house, once inside this pub was very nice with a smart bar and a lounge which we never went in,there were two real ales on here we usually had a drink of Wards bitter which was a very nice drink the other beer was Wards mild.
You could always tell when you were getting close to this pub as there was a horrible smell this was because there used to be a slaughterhouse just along the street from the pub.
I have been in this pub too many times to mention and it was usually a starting point for a drink round Ilkeston when i first went out with my wife to be.
This pub is still open and the new releif road runs at the back of the pub.
I am not sure what beers are now on here.
