Located down a small alleyway just off one of the main shopping streets, this isn’t likely to get too much in the way off passing trade due to it’s rather off piste location, although that’s probably just as well as it really is quite miniscule, although I think there may have been a further room upstairs.

The main bar is perhaps a little basic in appearance, with some sort of faux wood strip on the floor, pale green paintwork on much of the walls as well as some pine cladding, and a plain grey ceiling. A number of beer mats were on the wall, as well as several Good Beer Guide books on a shelf, so they are presumably well regarded for their beer. A TV screen was showing the snooker, but the sound was off so this was not too intrusive. A few other beer related posters and mirrors were on the walls, as well as a random picture or two. Seating was limited to just three small tables, all of which were occupied, but by just one person each! Standing room was similarly limited, so we just stood at the bar.

Beers on tap were Thornbridge American Pale, Butcombe Chris Moose, Original Duck House Bitter and Redemption London Fellowship. Ciders were well represented, besides Stowford Press on tap, there were a number of boxes racked up behind the bar including three from Lilley’s with their Crazy Goat, Mango and Bee Sting, Stan’s Cheddar Valley and Black Rat. All in all, not too bad, a decent beer selection and friendly barmaid, but the amount of available space and slightly tatty appearance mean that I’d be unlikely to rush back.

Disappointment Of The Week award goes to – this place. It’s well described by Quinno, below. The beer selection was fine, consisting of Original House Duck, Thornbridge 90/-, Brew York Milk Stout on cask, with the keg choices of Underfall lager, and Stowford Press and Pacific Haze ciders. What let it down was the attitude of the staff – a thoroughly unwelcoming barman and his less-than-amiable sidekick. A group of party-goers in fancy dress came in and left quickly, so we drank our beers – which, to be fair, were in good condition - and followed them. An uncomfortable atmosphere means we are unlikely to return given that there is plenty of competition.

Excellent micro. Very small downstairs. I popped upstairs for go on the Pacman! Most people were outside as there was a singer on. % beers on, I had an excellent pint from Vocation. Well worth a visit.
