No cask. Typical venue keg offering of Guinness, Staro, Heineken, Madri, Aspall, Fosters, Carlsberg, Coors.

More typical North London Irish bar in terms of its size and feel. This is a quite small rectangle off a parade of shops, bare boarded at the front and carpeted at the rear. Bar counter is mid venue on right hand wall, with stool seating around. Leather banquette in the front right corner and front left corner and then down the length of the venue with regular tables and small stools the other side thereof. Plenty of TV screens on the walls all showing the evening racing action on my visit. Plenty of Irish pub memorabilia on the walls, especially opposite the bar counter. A fruit machine and a wall mounted jukebox in the rear right hand corner. An average venue of its type, prefer ones that are a bit livelier!

The Shanakee is a small shop converted Irish bar on the Edgware Road. The jukebox was playing loud music and a boisterous mix of locals were enjoying themselves early on the Saturday evening I visited a few weeks ago. Plasma screens are found throughout and Sky Sports is available for football and horse racing. The décor is pretty much what one would expect with a mix of Emerald Isle memorabilia on the walls and the draught selection is pretty much standard throughout this area that is full of these bars.

The Guinness was good and I would probably pop in here every now and again if I lived or worked locally, but this certainly isn’t a place worth making a special trip for.
