The same Tuesday lunchtime as my call to the Hollybush up the road. This place was packed as well. It seems the secret of success is to focus on food in the afternoons; otherwise, you may as well shut up shop until the evening. Friendly and enthusiastic women at the bar and table service.Rather expensive, I thought - £3.25 for 330ml bottle of Coke Zero - but we are closer to Cardiff, I suppose. Rhymney Bitter and Export on pull for the CAMRA crew; Valleys staples (Carling, Stella, Madri, Strongbow, Thatcher's cider) for everyone else. I'll revisit for food on another occasion, but it's been considerably upgraded since I was last here about a decade ago.
