A CAMRA Inventory pub and all-in-all it’s unspoilt (bar the telly) set over two rooms either side of bar. A farmhouse feel, the left side is the more basic with flagstone floor and high back varnished wood benches whilst the other room a bit plusher. Five pumps with three Marstons cask on the go; I went for the Banks Sunbeam (NBSS 3.5) and Amber (3.5). No music, lovely beer and bags of atmosphere. It was a winner. I'm guessing CAMRA cask snobbery keeps it out of the GBG'23?. 8.5

Very traditional stone building with an attractive tap room well used by locals. There is also a comfortable lounge in red upholstery which is very convivial. This is a Marstons tied house and they have four handpumps dispensing ales from the various breweries owned by Marstons. On our visit there was Jennings Snecklifter,Brakspears Hooray Henley and Pedigree which was very well kept,a feat that is increasingly rare these days.No evening food .Having walked the length of Whaley Bridge from the canal basin, this appeared the best pub in town by a long way.
