Situated in the hills above the town of New Mills, this pub has some wonderful views over the rolling High Peak countryside. It's the sort of pub I wouldn't expect to be open during the day, especially midweek. But sure enough, I entered at 3:15pm on a Wednesday afternoon, glad to escape a rather heavy rain shower.
The pub was predictably fairly quiet for my visit with as far as I could tell, just a family of 3 and the barmaid when I arrived. Another couple did arrive shortly before I departed.
To the front of the pub are a couple of lounge areas, with quite a few tables having reserved signs on them for later in the evening. This was despite there being a much larger dining room to the rear left-hand side. A specials board listed 3 different curries they had on, which all sounded tempting. Smooth Radio was playing in the background creating a fairly comfortable drinking environment (for some).
On the bar, there are 4 handpulls. With one unclipped, the selection was Arizona, Harvest Pale & Wainwright Golden. Despite food being the focus here, I found this to be a nice and cosy roadside pub that is worth a visit for the views alone.

Lovely pub. Used to have great food, but not so anymore. Really disappointed. Child size portions and high prices. Our old faithful pub was great for years. Some bean counter has messed it up. Avoid the food, it's not worth it.
