Pub/restaurant/hotel in the centre of Hayfield that has the feel of faded glory. There are number of different seating areas. Entering from Church Street, there is a compact bar area with a dog-friendly snug to the left-hand side and a dining room to the right. A room with a pool table could be found to the rear. Beyond that is the car park and a small outdoor drinking area.
When I arrived, there were just a few other customers. A couple were eating in the main bar area, whilst there was a mother with her child in the dining room. Another family arrived during my visit, but they disappeared out to the front of the pub where there was seemingly more seating.
Music was playing in the background, whilst stained glass windows to the front are a worthwhile feature. One featured George II.
The cheerful Eastern barmaid who served me provided me with an iPad (or similar device) to enter my vehicle registration in. There's quite a steep parking fine if you don't, but in fairness, there are signs everywhere both in the car park, at each table inside and also on the walls.
Owned by Marston's, the cask ale selection is predictably dull. For my visit, it was Hobgoblin Ruby, Directors, Wainwright Amber, 61 Deep & Pedigree. The cider was Aspall's.
I had nearly chosen to eat here instead of the Paper Mill Inn at Chinley. But in hindsight, the Paper Mill was easily the better option. The overall feel of this pub is that it has seen much better days.

Back again and a beer this time. I learnt something new - a well kept Pedigree is a joy to behold. I always thought it was eggy.
1575 coaching house - lots of space and very friendly staff who try to make you welcome.
Food was good again. Lamb Kleftiko in Derbyshire!

Called in after our visit to the Royal Hotel nice enough place might have been a Marston,s managed house once. Not anybody eating but a good few in the bar all seemed good sort of guy,s mixed age group and having fun talking what more can a man want on a Sunday dinner time will call back.
