This pub was not due to open until 3pm, but when a member of staff saw me taking a couple of photos and checking the door, she kindly let me in and served me a half of Keswick Gold. As she was a kitchen worker rather than bar staff, she didn't know about pulling through the contents of the pipe from the cellar, but my beer was only slightly stale and not actually off, so I wasn't complaining. This is a food-led pub, as most are in small villages outside the main tourist areas, but opening at mid-afternoon means they're not doing lunches midweek, I guess. Now the only pub in the village, this is a pleasant enough building, probably a bit too smart for the likes of me in my cycling gear, but I was made welcome and I'd have no problem calling in again when I'm passing, if it's open.
