I think curiosity brought us in here, as it was so busy on a Thursday eve. I was most probably wishing to hear an oompah band playing or at least some German music. Unfortunately they had two acoustic guitarists winching down a microphone. Beer wise no cask, however there was a decent range of 8 craft beers , so we went for the Glen Affric "Bevvie Across the Mersey" session IPA, which was £6 a pint. Their other beers were around £7. Lots of Paulaner Munich beer flags across the ceilings and a fire pit over on the left of entrance.

There were two ales on handpump on this visit. I went for the Burscough Brewery Old Habit. Managed to a get a seat over on the left-hand side of the entrance, as you're out of the hustle and bustle from the main part of the restaurant.

I still struggle what to make of this place. It's a German-themed bar/restaurant with slightly more emphasis on restaurant than bar and enjoys a decent corner location near the Liverpool One shopping centre and bus station.

The two handpulls are no longer used, but there is a good selection of craft ales - Magic Rock Saucery, Twisted Wheel Speed Wobble, Farmyard A Rose Between & Kolsch, Kirkstall Lady Grey, Black Lodge Stars Above, Abbeydale Outback & Alpha Delta Hera.

Prices are also quite steep here. I asked for 3 halves, only to discover that only one of the beers I'd ordered could be served in a half pint measure (?), meaning I had to order either a third or two thirds. The bill came to £14+!

There's always some interesting craft beers here, but the prices and the focus on dining deter me from visiting too often. You certainly wouldn't want a session here, unless you had ridiculous amounts of cash to waste.

This is not a bad place at all, it’s decorated as a Bavarian bierhalle and feels reasonably well done and not too ersatz, it also has a good atmosphere with plenty of drinkers in along with the diners. Food is good quality, hearty, large portions. It’s worth a visit but the handpulls appear to have disappeared and I have to say I was hoping for a better range of German beers, I thought the choice was quite run of the mill.
