On a busy main road which does not encourage passing trade, The Pembroke Arms is named after the Earl of Pembroke, a major local landowner. It's a village pub which manages to retain its charm - not as a chocolate-box tourist attraction but as a working village pub. A square Georgian building, the 2 bars have been joined by a large doorway which has the effect of showing the building's symmetry, which would be otherwise unnoticed. The wooden floors - not original - give it a bit of an echo while the strong colour scheme enhances the two matching chimney breasts. There is a small car park and a large garden. The walls have a lot of military memorabilia dotted around, and there is a dartboard and a large tv screen. There were 3 ales on, all from Marstons, and a pretty average bar menu. I had a pint of Brakspear Bitter which was in perfect condition. Well worth stopping for lunch, and I'd be happy to come out here for an evening.
