An attractive pub in the style of the farmhouse it undoubtedly once was, with a barn next to the car park just off the main road through the valley. Once inside it's a pleasant old fashioned place, that is, it hasn't been opened out into a large space with dining tables everywhere. There are five hand pumps on the bar, with Black Sheep Bitter doubled up and Theakstons Bitter on another. Similar mainstream pump clips are displayed on the walls. A roaring fire seemed unnecessary to me, and the BBC news channel was showing, but without sound. Some dreadful 80s music was also playing, but mercifully at a volume that made it possible for me to largely ignore it. For those in need of them, the gents toilets are outside.
This pub is a bit of a throwback, and I'm not sure how viable it is - if the family own the building, it may not require much in the way of food and drink sales to make a go of it. It would be a shame to see it totally updated but personally I would have liked to have seen a more imaginative beer offering.
