The upstairs at the Black Pearl is a formal restaurant and downstairs is a less formal bar, but it is still hardly a raucous affair. There’s not much choice at the bar with Peroni and Becks being the draught options alongside Surger Guinness that I’m not a big fan of. There is live music advertised for every Friday night, but this is a very small place so I’d imagine a soloist guitar player is more likely than a band. There are no TVs or other electrical distractions, but some bass mood music was playing in the background.

This isn’t the cheapest place in the world and I certainly wouldn’t visit for a beer on my own again, but I suppose it is a pleasant enough place to take a date.
