A traditional village pub dating from the early 19th Century, though the current building is on the site of a previous 16th Century building. It's atmospheric, cosy and welcoming. The front two rooms have been conjoined to form a long bar with the counter on the right as you enter, while there is a dining room and a snug bar, the latter with a brick fireplace, in the rear rooms. There are oak beams on display throughout, timber floors, and a piano at the seating end of the bar. There is also a longer room on the right which is used both as a function room and a more private lounge area. There is another function room upstairs, and they offer B and B. The landlady was friendly, though the clientele on our visit consisted almost entirely of a group of very elderly ladies enjoying a day out from their care home, and the atmosphere was also tainted by awful, incongruous pop music on the hifi. No food is served, so it's a drinkers' pub only. Ales on were Exmoor Ale and Skinner's Lushingtons, both in first class condition. Also available were three keg ciders from Thatcher's, Guinness, Becks Vier, Budweiser and Stella. Cash is preferred but not essential, and they are very dog friendly. A rather pleasant experience in the main, and worth a revisit.

Nice little village pub which is the oldest in Nether Stowey. A few rooms with a bar to the right. A comfortable room to the left complete with a piano. Another bar in the back room. Function room upstairs. A few friendly locals in when I called. Exmoor Ale and Gold on offer. The Gold was fine. Happy to have called in.
