Castle Rock house in the Sneinton area of Nottingham. The pub has a wooden floor with a large notable Banks's pub sign at one end of the bar showing the former name of the pub (Peggers). The pub has plenty of windows, but drawn venetian blinds actually made it feel quite dark inside. Music was playing on our visit and there was quite a lively atmosphere. Quiz nights take place on a Wednesday and board games also appear to be popular. Monday is board game night. Tables had condiments on them, but I didn't actually notice anybody eating. Children are allowed in.

Untappd screens list the beers available. Castle Rock's Harvest Pale, Screech Owl, Elsie Mo & Preservation are the regular cask ales. 2 guests were Wylam's Landlord's Choice & Forest Road Lewi. A further 3 handpulls are reserved for ciders. There was Lilley's Mango & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. The third cider handpull was unclipped. Craft beers were Castle Rock Session, Wiper & True Citra & Rye, Kaleidoscope & Double Espresso Martini, Indie Rabble Marzen & Verdant Light Bulb.

Quite a decent pub with a lively atmosphere and friendly service.

Set in an attractive 19th century building, once a Banks pub but now owned by Castle Rock. Now modernised inside but tastefully so in an L shaped single room. I counted nine handpulls but this figure differs from previous reviews and differs again from CAMRA Experiences current write up, whatever the truth there are plenty of beers available, many from Castle Rock as you would expect but also guests, my Thornbridge Melba was very good. Well worth the look in this bit of town.

ORIGINAL REVIEW June 2021.

An oblong Victorian building in Sneiton Market,no doubt once used by the market porter but these days owned by Castle Rock. The interior had been unsympathetically stripped out and it's quite antiseptic. The slatted blinds in the windows look awful and make the interior gloomy. The bar is to one side and has 8 handpumps but the ale list on my trip was just 4,Castle Rock Screech Owl,Preservation and SIPA Simcoe (not right NBSS 1.5) with a single guest Liquid Light Turtles Have Short Legs.
There is a much longer and more interesting craft keg list ,and more real ciders than real ale.Food served until 8pm.
There are ranks of benches outside and this seemed a less gloomy option.
I came here on the back of it's 2021 GBG listing.I was disappointed and can't understand why the local branch think this pub is deserving with the excellent King Billy a stones throw away. Not on the list for a revisit, maybe thay are targetting a younger audience.

UPDATE
A change of ale policy with a much greater range of Castle Rock ales and interesting guests ,my Thornbridge Melba was terrific,NBSS 4. The cider options have been toned down to just 3 on handpump and the customer mix is varied across age groups. An upgrade from me and well worth a visit ,a great triple header with the nearby Partizan Tavern and King Billy a mere stones throw.
