My first visit here since a family holiday 17 years ago, with my mother and brothers for her 75th birthday, and I think it has been closed for most of the intervening years. Not a good start, as my half of Tirril Honister IPA was on the turn, maintaining my long run of never having a decent beer from this brewery. It was changed with profuse apologies - it was actually at the end of the barrel, so excusable - but rather than wait for a new barrel to be pulled through I had a keg Wainwright. Good to see the pub busy, with mostly families with small children on a pre-Christmas weekend in the Lakes. This is a multi-roomed, slightly chaotic building, with the bar counter at the back of what may have originally been a kitchen, and toilets in an outbuilding. Stone floors and whitewashed, rough plastered walls make for a very traditional and authentic look. I hope it remains successful.
