This is a modern extension to a 19th century hotel, but it's on the site of an original pub called the Talbot Alehouse, according to some old documents on the walls, which are interspersed with some interesting local photos and pictures of local sports such as fell running.
On the bar were three hand pumps, serving Jennings Bitter and Cumberland Ale, plus Brakspear Oxford Gold. Unfortunately my Jennings Bitter was not in good condition, but as I was in a hurry to catch the next bus to Chapel Stile I didn't complain. There was some irritating commercial radio station playing, but this may have been for the benefit of the workman who was doing something with the floor at the rear of the bar rather than for the delectation of any customers. Perhaps it's better in summer - the waterfalls are worth a visit, by the way, and are only a couple of minutes' walk from the pub.

Large bar in country hotel,at road junction near waterfall. If approached from the lower road, has its own frontage which feels quite publike. A couple of good ales on offer. Seemed popular with families with menu more pub than restaurant. Tolerable if in the area, but not worth a special trip.
