The Carpenters, Newport

One of Newport's ‘strip’ pubs. Much like the others all adjoining it's a long narrow room. There’s some padded bench seating, grey painted wood panelling, stylised pics of Welsh sports stars of yesteryear and plenty of noise on a Saturday night which included a fairly grating EMO soundtrack, a Newport speciality - they are like the Germans round here, stuck in an era 20 years prior. A Basset pub with two classic cask for the town in Felinfoel Double Dragon and Bass, the latter of which was a very good drop (NBSS 4) and fairly cheap (or at least, not expensive). The local CAMRAs indicate there might be an aspirator on the go but no doubt my beer was fresh. So all in all, why not? 6.5
