This one looks a bit like a pub when you go in the main bar, but in fact it's nothing like a pub. As you enter there's a separate room on the right, but the main area is on the left. As you enter the room on the left there's a glazed publican's office on the right, further down from which is the longish bar counter that has a very pubby feel to it. On the left is traditional seating with some screening separating drinking/dining spaces further towards the back giving it something of an intimate feel. All good so far.

But you aren't permitted to sit at, or purchase drinks at the bar, with table service the only option. When I and my two chums visited they did have one beer available - bottles of Shepherd Neame Whitstable Pale Ale at £7.50 a pop. The waitress attempted to pour one of our bottles - into a glass filled with ice before we all told her to stop! As I said, not really much like a pub, but of course they don't pretend to be a pub.

I wouldn't really call this a pub-our group of peri -septuagenarians was greeted with the memorable phrase "no draught beer".Convivial and charming, but not a pub.

The Boot and Flogger is part pub, part wine bar, part restaurant and part club - and it does most of these things quite well. Its location - 5 minutes' walk from London Bridge Station - makes it an ideal place to have lunch in comfortable surroundings if arriving in Town that way. There are 2 main bar areas, decorated with wooden panelling and furnished with a mix of leather Chesterfields and wooden tables, and there is usually a liberal sprinkling of sand on the bare wooden floors to provide traction. Its one major fault is that there is no ale on tap, so bottled ale is the best way to go if you don't want to drink wine with your meal. Not cheap, so not ideally suited for a crawl but highly recommended for eating and entertaining.
