Update
All traces of Dancing Duck have been removed here and there is now a Star pubs sign outside advertising the lease.
The front row of six hand pumps had four unused and a couple of ciders while the rear six had two unused, Deuchars IPA, a house beer by Theakstons (almost certainly Best), Black Iris Snake Eyes and Blue Bee Cascade Pale. I went for the Cascade Pale (£3.10) which was in reasonable nick.
Without the Dancing Duck range of beers that place has totally lost it's appeal, score reduced from 9 to 5.

Review July 2014

This is a back-street corner local so typical of Midland and Northern towns. It is a single room that has been well refurbished using old and new fittings. The white walls are broken up by images of the somewhat daft Dancing Duck logo painted onto them and there are also some duck related pictures.
I ignored the two guests a Caledonian Commonwealth Games beer and Wentworth Imperial. The six Dancing Duck beers were Waitangi, Abduction, Dark Drake, Ay Up / Ey Up, 22 and DCUK. Prices varied from £2.70 to £2.80.
I went for the Waitangi, Ay Up /Ey Up, Dark Drake and Abduction all in superb condition.
I really liked this pub and found it made a nice change from the busier city centre pubs. It's well worth the walk or short bus ride from Central Derby (I got a bus to Shaw Street from Friar Gate).

Real Ale Ray left this review about New Zealand Arms

A traditional corner street pub in a residential part of Derby. The pub consisted of a pool table in the front part of the pub, a long side section, with various seating arrangements and a raised middle section street side, with red leather banquette seating. There was also an old piano along the back wall. The front section of the pub was floorboards and the rear part a flagstone floor. The walls were painted in burgundy and cream. Their beer board displaying their ales was in a colour coded fashion. Green was the lowest ABV and the lowest in price per pint, then it went to yellow, red and blue being the highest ABV and price. We went for the Dancing Duck Ay Up.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about New Zealand Arms

Dancing Duck brewery tap featuring a total of 13 handpumps, with a full range of seven its beers (e.g. Quack Addict, £1.40, half) plus several ciders. The pub has been partly opened-out to form an overall 'L' shape with a pool table at one end and a slightly-raised seating area at the other. With its pleasantly traditional furniture and decor, and various live music and other events advertised, this one rightly deserves its reputation and is well worth making an effort to get to.
