Shipping Forecast is a large bar in an old industrial building with a high ceiling that has allowed an extensive first floor bar and balconies to be installed above the main bar and seating below. A curved serving counter sits on the right-hand wall where standard, premium and mainstream keg products were available from the polite young bar staff. There’s a mix of seating throughout including some long high tables at the rear where I plotted under the gaze of many televisions that were airing muted women’s football while some background music played. In the left rear is an Arrowsmiths internet dartboard, pay to play. There’s also a dining area by the kitchen in the left front. Upstairs was roped off during a recent Monday evening visit. I didn’t mind it in here and I’d revisit if this was in a small town with limited options, but being where it is there are better places to visit.

as noted, the real ale has gone. It was always a bit of an afterthought in here in any case, it’s really a student-oriented night venue, with a vacuous chain-pub atmosphere in the afternoon. Very little fixed seating, it’s an uncomfortable dark place and I have never taken to it. In its current form, definitely not.

A large, opened out single roomer, that obviously used to be two. Kitchen on the right and bar on the left. No real ales on the bar when I visited. Lots of long tables as per usual for a student pub. I've been now, so I'll never feel the need to return.
