Very much an upmarket foody restaurant bar, maybe the revolving doors were a warning sign, everywhere was set for dining apart from two or three small tables shoved in corners near the exit doors. The single Handpump offered Harveys Sussex Best. Although you can this is probably not the sort of place to just grab a pint.

This venue was previously called the Ship Hotel until 2005 when it became a French restaurant called Le Bordeaux. The Bordelais have long since gone and this venue is now a gastro pub called the Ginger Pig which is run by the Gingerman Group that have another couple of pubs and a restaurant in the Brighton area.

The interior is L shaped and the large right hand side is reserved for diners. The bar is stocked with premium draught products and there is an extensive cocktail menu. These cocktails cost £7.50 a pop and I imagine that the food isn’t very cheap either. The bar also supports two hand pumps, but during my visit last night (Tuesday) the London Pride was off and the other hand pump was unused. Unsurprisingly there are no televisions in here, but some low inoffensive background music was playing. There were only a handful of other customers, but the staff seemed very hurried meaning that the service bordered on rude.

I think that the best way to describe this place would be as an informal restaurant. This isn’t a place to make a point of visiting just for a beer and I was glad to leave through the revolving door from which I came.
