I remember The Derby, a decade ago, as one of the top nightspots in the area, with two function suites, a lounge and a large public bar. Now only the bar remains, with the rest of the building in the process of being demolished to make way for new flats. It has been re-designated as a lounge and substantially refurbished, with wood panelling and subtle lighting intended, presumably, to create a more female friendly atmosphere. The landlord stressed that the pub is going through a period of transition and that the photograph doesn’t represent the finished article.
