A large town pub whose interior has been opened out to form a J-shaped bar which rises as you move up the long side of the J towards a games area with a pool table. There are also a couple dartboards, and there is a display cabinet with plenty of trophies showing the pub’s sporting prowess. The car park has been largely displaced to form a tarmacked outside seating area with tables, benches and a sheltered smoking hut. There is a sign outside indicating cooked food, but we saw no evidence of this. Only one ale on, Tribute, which was well kept and in good condition. The locals were friendly, the barman was chatty, and overall it was a not-unpleasant experience. One of the better options for a beer in this town.

A couple of years now since I visited but then it was a Thai restaurant but they've kept the Royal Oak pub bar at the front - really strange atmosphere if you're expecting a pub, ditto if you're expecting a Thai restaurant, but overall well worth a visit. Otter Ale and Otter Bitter on stillage. I popped in a couple of lunchtimes for a quick pint and the pub part was fine. As for the restaurant, the Sunday "all you can eat for £7.95 buffet" must take some beating - it was delicious! and goes really well with the Ale. Above average but reading the previous post it may now have changed to a bit of chav heaven.
