Situated just to the north of Dorchester, this pub looks a bit run-down and quite small if you approach from the north. However, if you approach from Dorchester itself, the stone facade is much more impressive and it seems a much bigger building.
On our arrival, the car park was busy. This is predominantly a dining pub, renowned locally for its daily carvery featuring gammon and beef. The carvery is on the right-hand side of the main bar area. Pretty much all tables were made out for diners in this room. A second room to the right also seemed to be aimed at diners.
For a 2023 Good Beer Guide pub, the real ale range of Sharp's Doom Bar & Butcombe Bitter was disappointing. However, we did stop for a roast beef baguette, which was fairly nice. Luckily a table became available without us having to wait for too long. Although the food took much longer to arrive.
Dogs are allowed in the dining area, which may concern some.

A pleasant pub on the edge of town, there is a small outside terrace at the front and a large car park with a gravelled overspill area for coaches. The interior is much as described by Soup Dragon, below. The carvery looked like good value, though they stopped it early to cater for a private party. The staff were friendly enough, while the other customers were a mixed bunch including a large party enjoying their own picnic in the garden. Ales on were Trooper’s Light Brigade, Doombar and Purity Gold, all in reasonable condition. I’d be very happy to come back.

The pub is a real gem. It is a beautiful looking Pub on both the inside and outside. There is ample car parking and the Beer Garden and Children's play area is a great feature. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The carvery was absolutely beautiful and was worth every penny. The beef was very tender and the vegetables were hot and fresh and kept under lids. My wife has a wheat and gluten allergy. The pub serve gluten free gravy and the head chef very kindly came to our table to discuss the options available. He also offered to cook anything she liked and he clearly knew how to cater for people with wheat allergies. I am glad that we came here to eat and we will pay this pub another visit when we are back in the area. Well Done to the Sun Inn and Thank you.
